Optimist PM Spiez

Spiez was very fun. Spiez was at the last PM of the season because of COVID. RZVS as a team all did very well.  The club was very beautiful with a volleyball court and playground.

On the first day we had a late start and played volleyball before we rigged. Then we went out and had three races. The marks were big and orange and the races were about 40 minutes. For the first race (green and pink) there was no black flag but for the second start (black and white) they had a general recall and then there was a black flag. Then for the next race (green and black) there was also no black flag. But again for the second start (white and pink) there was another general recall ending up with a black flag. For the last race on Saturday both starts had black flags and lots of people who were doing really well got black flags.

On Sunday there was very little wind and it got postponed for a long time. Some of the sailors played in the skate park and the playground while we were waiting to go out, and it passed the time. Then we went out, but we had to be towed to the start, which was a long way up the lake. Then we waited for the wind to pick up. We then had a start and I wasn’t doing well at all. I was at the first mark and the wind completely died. I was really hoping that it would be cancelled, and it was! Then we ate lunch while the wind picked up and rotated about 180 degrees. We then had one more race, which had moderate wind.

I really enjoyed Spiez, and I hope we can sail there again.
