What a week for our RVZS athletes in Torbole!
Robin Zeley delivered a strong performance after a difficult first day and claimed 3rd place for Switzerland following a thrilling semifinal and final. Teammate Finley Evans showed great consistency throughout the week and fought hard to secure 5th overall in the highly competitive U19 Men’s fleet. Hats off as well to Devin Hauser (18th), Philip Klarer (54th), and Tino Durrer (67th) – a solid showing from the entire Swiss squad!
Medal Race Drama:
The semifinals were full of pressure, with three sailors receiving early start penalties. Both Robin and Finley kept their cool, restarted smartly, and used the opportunity to their advantage. With only three sailors on the course, including the two Swiss, it was anyone’s game. Robin initially rounded the gate in third but made a bold tactical call on the second upwind. Finley was caught slightly under the layline and had to tack twice – a gift that Robin used to move into 2nd place and qualify for the grand final.
In the final, the pack was tight around the first mark. Robin, in 4th at the bottom gate, again chose the opposite side of the course. A big wind shift caught the front three off guard, and Robin was able to capitalize – moving up to secure 3rd behind Valentino Blewett (1st) and Leopold Brisedou (2nd).
Future Talent on Display in U17:
RVZS was also proudly represented in the U17 fleet by Miles Evans (55th) and Ben Coldebella (60th). Both sailors gained valuable international experience and showed great determination throughout the event – a promising sign for the future!
A huge thank you to Coach Fabio for his incredible support and guidance throughout the week.
Proud of our RVZS iQFOiL team – the future is flying! 🚀
